Abstract
1482434 Straightening and rolling metal sections NIPPON STEEL CORP 3 Dec 1974 [3 Dec 1973] 52193/74 Headings B3E B3A and B3M A metal section is straightened by rolling at least part of the section to reduce its thickness, while constraining the section to follow a path cured in a plane parallel to the roll axes. In Fig. 6, rolls pairs 11, 11<SP>1</SP> ... 15, 15<SP>1</SP> of the section shown in Fig. 7 engage a section 1 and reduce the thickness of e.g. the shorter web only, at the same time constraining the section to follow a path which is sinusoidal both in a plane parallel to the roll axes and a plane perpendicular to the roll axes. Subsequent rolls 16 ... 20 continue the straightening by bending without reducing the thickness of the section. Each roller may be adjustable along its axis and towards and away from the section path. In the Figure all lower rolls and rolls 12<SP>1</SP> and 14<SP>1</SP> of the upper rolls are adjustable vertically and parallel to their axes, the remaining upper rolls being adjustable parallel to their axes only. Such adjustment may be effected by a screw mechanism described, or hydraulically, and the rolls are spring biased to their adjusted positions. The spacing between consecutive rolls may be varied by moving their housings along a common bed, e.g. in the case of rolls 17 and 19.
