Abstract
1482193 Perforating apparatus G E LETT 17 July 1974 [15 June 1973] 28639/73 Heading B4B [Also in Division B8] Apparatus which can be entirely manually operated and is suitable for dispensing sheets of wrapping material comprises a reel 11 for supporting a roll of unperforated material, e.g. plastics film, for rotation about an axis, a rotatable roller 1 over which the material is pulled and thereby caused to be perforated by a blade 5, and a severing blade 14 adapted when the perforated web is moved adjacent thereto, to cause a sheet to be severed from the remainder of the material along the line of perforations. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the blade 5 is mounted on a plate 4 which is hinged to the inside wall of the drum and supported by a rod 6, the ends of which project through dots 7 in end walls of the drum and engage in fixed cam tracks 8. As shown in Fig. 4 the material is fed from the reel 11 over the drum and across the stationary blade 14. In order to improve the grip of the material on the drum the latter may be coated with glass paper or carborudum powder; the latter may itself be coated with resin. In use, the material is pulled thereby rotating the drum to cause the blade to project out of the opening 2 and so perforate the material, the material is continually pulled until the line of perforations is over the blade where the material is severed at the line of perforations. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the cam track 8 is replaced by an elliptical edge cam plate 17 fixedly mounted within the drum in a stationary rod 16.
