Abstract
1480157 Heat-setting polyester film E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 4 Aug 1975 [5 Aug 1974] 32514/75 Heading B5B An asymmetrically, biaxially orientated polyethylene terephthalate film is heat set in three stages. The temperature in the first stage is from 150‹ to 250‹ C., in the second stage at least 5‹ C. below the first stage temperature but above the second order transition temperature of the film and in the third stage from 125‹ to 190‹ C. The heat-set film is quenched after the third stage. Preferred features are that the biaxial stretching is produced by firstly stretching longitudinally by up to twice its length, secondly stretching laterally from 3 to 4À5 times its width and thirdly stretching longitudinally again to 4À3 to 4À7 times its length. The film may also be longitudinally stretched by from 0À5 to 6À5% after the second heat-setting stage. The film may be allowed to release during the first setting and after the third.
