Abstract
1,000,361. Polyethylene terephthalate films. TOYO RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Feb. 28, 1962, No. 7915/62. Heading B5B. A polyethylene terephthalate film which has been stretched longitudinally and transversely is subjected to a first heat treatment at 150‹ to 250‹ C. whilst held under tension, the longitudinal and transverse dimensions being maintained substantially constant, and thereafter subjected to a second heat-treatment at 150‹ to 250‹ C. whilst allowing the film to relax along its longitudinal and/or transverse dimensions by from 2 to 30%. The second heat treatment may be carried out at a temperature equal to, or higher than, the temperature of the first heat treatment. If desired, the film may be subjected to a third heat treatment at 150‹ to 250‹ C. Film may be subjected to each heat-treatment for 2-30 sees. Flat film may be treated using a tenter frame, and tubular film may be treated while inflated. Treatment enhances the dimensional stability of the film.
