Abstract

1479499 Pipe joints F J PROGAR and D D ROBERTSON [trading as LEXTEL INDUSTRIES Inc] 29 July 1975 [29 July 1974] 31604/75 Heading F2G A pipe fitting has an externally screwthreaded tubular body 50 formed at one end with a nipple portion 60 to define a shoulder 58 therebetween, said shoulder having axially extending teeth projections 70; a collet member 52 having an axially inclined outer surface portion and being receivable over the nipple portion to define therebetween an annular space wherein a pipe end is receivable to abut said teeth; and a sleeve 54 formed with an axially inclined inner surface portion corresponding to the outer surface of the collet and being receivable thereon to be screwthreadedly engaged with the said body and thereby radially compress the collet. Preferably the collet member is formed with a plurality of axial slots 76, 78 extending alternately from opposite ends and is further characterized by the provision of axially extending ratchet teeth 82 engageable with a pair of dog teeth projections 70 on the body shoulder. A plurality of annular ribs 80, e.g. of buttress, sawtooth formation may be formed on the inner surface of the collet with a similar formation 64 on the outer nipple surface to engage respectively the outer and inner pipe surfaces upon the screwthreaded engagement of the sleeve and body members, which action may be facilitated by the provision of gripping ribs 88 on the outer sleeve surface.
