Abstract

1,034,687. Tube couplings. BYSAB BYGGNADSEKONOMISKT SAMARBETE A.B. Aug. 28, 1963 [Aug. 30, 1962], No. 34094/63. Heading F2G. The ends of the pipes 1, 2 are accommodated in annular grooves 4, 5 in a sleeve 3, which is also formed with grooves 9, 10 and the bore of which is convex to provide a smooth passage between the pipes. Rings 7, 8 fit in the grooves 9, 10 and when a nut 15 is screwed on a threaded sleeve 13 the inner ends of the nut and sleeve, shaped to protrude into the grooves 9, 10, press the rings 7, 8 into the grooves and, owing to the obliquity of the cross-section of the rings they transmit the applied pressure in a substantially radial plane while reacting against the slot wall of the connecting sleeve via the portion of the pipe-end lying against said slot wall. The inner and outer peripheries of the rings have edges to enhance their cutting action and the other two corners of the section of each ring are rounded to facilitate rolling of the ring against the annular end surfaces 11, 12, 14 and 16 of the grooves 9, 10, sleeve 13 and nut 15. In a modification the extension of the sleeve is threaded for two end nuts which are screwed on it to compress the washers. Additional washers may be fitted between the nuts and the ends of the sleeves. The Specification shows the application of the coupling to a T-joint.
