Abstract

1479231 Sintered WC, TiC in W-Ni matrix KENNAMETAL Inc 29 July 1975 31686/75 Heading C7A and D A sintered cemented carbide product comprising tungsten carbide, titanium carbide and a binding alloy comprising tungsten-nickel in which the tungsten constitutes 2 to 28 wt. per cent of the binder alloy. The product may additionally comprise chromium and may be prepared by milling together WC, Ni, Cr and Ti, e.g. in the form of Ni-Ti alloy or Ti hydride, for 4 to 15 days, vacuum sintering for “ to 2 hours at 1350 to 1550‹C and 0À02 to 0À75 torr, whereupon the titanium reacts with a portion of the tungsten carbide to produce titanium carbide and the tungsten-nickel alloy matrix. The sintered product may be magnetic or non-magnetic and may be used in the manufacture of wear resistant guides for magnetic tapes and cutting tools in glass making.
