Abstract
1478936 Treating molten metals MATERIALS & METHODS Ltd 11 May 1976 [27 March 1975] 12913/75 Addition to 1311093 Heading C7D A reactive additive is introduced into molten metal by passing the latter through a cooled reaction chamber in which the additive is located, the chamber being of such configuration that for a given flow-rate the metal always covers the additive. In the preferred embodiment a cooling jacket is incorporated in the wall of the chamber and a coolant such as air forced through it. As shown in Fig. 1, metal flows from inlet 1 to chamber 3 wherein there is located an additive 12 which can be replenished through opening 11. Within the wall of the apparatus there is incorporated a jacket 8, through which air can be blown from inlet 9. The jacket is prevented from contact with the metal by a layer of sand.
