Abstract

1477703 Plate heat exchangers ADVANCED MATERIALS ENG Ltd 27 June 1975 [11 July 1974] 30782/74 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises a stack of substantially planar members 30 of ceramic material at least some which have ribs 34, 36 ... or 40, 42 ... projecting from at least one side and the ribs of some members differ in direction from those of other members. The stack may include plates having ribs on one, both or no sides and the upper and lower plates are ribbed on one side only. The ribs may project into spaces between the ribs of an adjacent member and boundary ribs 42, 50 are secured as by cementing to the closely adjacent rib 38, 60 of an adjacent plate. Two flows of gas are passed in cross current through the exchanger via ducts (not shown) sealed thereto by means which can accommodate thermal stresses. The ceramic material may be silicon nitride or silicon carbide
