Abstract

1476871 Severing molten glass FABRICACION DE MAQUINAS SA 11 March 1975 10124/75 Heading C1M In the severing of molten glass into mould charges in which co-operative shear blades 10, 12 are carried by arms 14, 16 mounted on shafts 18, 20 to swing towards and away from each other and interconnected by gears 22, 24 so that swinging movement of one arm causes reverse swinging of the other arm, movement of the blades being by means of a cam 26 and follower 28 connected by rod 30 to arm 16 and having resilient means to cause the movement into the low position of cam 26 by follower 28 and rapid closing of the blades 10, 12, the resilient means comprises a torsion bar 34 in which energy is stored during opening of the blades by loading the bar in torsion. As shown, torsion bar 34 is pivoted on a plate 40 attached to shear arm 14 by pivoted links 36, 38. Bar 34 is of square cross-section and is received in an adjusting collar 44, the bar 34 being surrounded by a tube 42 rigidly attached to the framework of the glass feeder. Flanges 46, 50 on the collar 44 and tube 42 are provided with a series of openings, 48 on flange 46, the openings in flange 50 being two less in number, the two flanges 46, 50 being interconnected by bolts 52. By matching holes in the flanges, the torsion bar 34 can be prestressed by increments of about 6 degrees.
