Collapsible vessels.-A life-saving appliance comprises a number of floating chambers constructed of canvas or other suitable waterproof material stretched over a collapsible metallic framework and capable of holding several persons. The framework is held in position by ribs A, BA<1>, B<1>-A<11>, B<11>, which are hinged at C, C<1>, C<11> respectively so as to permit of the chamber being folded when not in use. Each chamber is provided with straps to prevent the occupants from rolling about and thus displacing the centre of gravity. Fig. 6 shows a number of chambers in the folded position suspended by hooks from a bar between ships' davits which are provided with suitable lowering tackle. The chambers may be attached to each other by ropes to keep them together in groups so as to facilitate rescue, and one or more of the chambers may be provided with a grappling anchor.
