Abstract

1475928 Controlling flow of molten metal from a ladle SIRMA SOC ITALIANA REFRATTARI MARGHERA AZIONARIA SpA 26 June 1974 [16 Oct 1973] 28397/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division F2] Flow of molten metal from the bottom of a ladle through a channel 22a is controlled by pivoting an obturator member 28 about a pin 26 so that a discharge channel 44a is brought into or out of alignment with the channel 22a. The pivotal obturator member 28 comprises a pouring bushing 44 disposed in a funnel-shaped appendix 28b. The member 28 has a toothed sector 28c in mesh with a rack 29. The obturator member 28 and rack are mounted by means of a frame 24 bolted on the ladle bottom and a cap 40 which is both articulated to the frame at 41 and bolted thereto at (42), Fig. 2 (not shown). Springs 38 and member 37 support the pivot pin 26 and one side of the member 28. The opposite side of the member 28 is supported by springs 39, a thrust support 36 and balls 30, 31. The obturator member, instead of being rotatable by the rack 29, may be rotatable by a worm screw. The obturator member may comprise a segment of a circle as illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown) or may be circular with its toothed edge formed by a toothed crown. The circular obturator member comprises a plurality of angular sectors each with a pouring channel.
