Abstract

1475071 Retractive switches P C HENDERSONLtd 12 Sept 1974 [14 Aug 1973] 38383/73 Heading H1N A bumper-bar safety switch device for controlling the operation of a power-operated door such as a sliding door 10, comprises a switch 19 and actuator 20 mounted by means 15 on the said door 10, and an actuator member 24 for moving the switch actuator 20 being mounted on said means 15 by resilient connecting means 22 and carrying a bumper strip 28, which is substantially rigid and is capable of resilient movement both rearwardly and sideways to cause operation of switch 19. As shown switch 19 is mounted on one limb 18 of an L-shaped bracket 15 whose other limb 16 is fixed to a door 10. Switch 19 is actuated to stop or reverse the drive to door 10 by tilting of a flexibly-mounted actuator 20 which passes through a rubber grommet 26 in actuator member 24. Member 24 is carried on bracket 15 by means of a rubber ring 22 clamped to an extension 21 of limb 18 and to an arm 23 depending from member 24. A part 25 of member 24 carries a tubular bar 28 to actuate switch 19 when its passage to the right is impeded. Another dependent arm 27 prevents actuation of switch 19 if the door is closed by pulling bar 28 to the right. The bar 28 may be mounted by a plurality of switch assemblies 14 (Fig. 1 not shown) depending upon the height of the door, but there are at least two.
