Abstract

1473947 Electric heating element HAJDUSAKI IPARMUVEK 26 April 1974 [17 May 1973] 18399/74 Heading H5H [Also in Division B2] A process for the production of an electric heating element comprises mixing an allotrope of carbon with an inorganic aqueous solution of sodium metasilicate to form a mixture which is formed into a surface layer and then treated with acid to give a large molecular polysilicic acid chain structure. This chain structure is fixed by the application of an inorganic acid such as phosphoric or hydrochloric acid. The acid used for treating the mixture may be hydrochloric acid or carbon dioxide in water. The carbon used is in the form of graphite preferably, and its concentration in the mixture may be between 5% and 90%. The surface layer may be formed by spraying, applying with a brush, or by casting on to an electrically insulating heat resistant carrier, one or more layers being applied. The thickness of the surface layer may be between ten microns and several centimetres. Examples of specific constructions and uses of such electric heating elements are given.
