Abstract

1473063 Steering and propelling ships NIIGATA ENG CO Ltd 30 Jan 1975 4178/75 Heading B7V [Also in Division F2] A manoeuvring handle 31 on the bridge of a ship having left 13 and right 14 Z-type propellers has a control rod 33 connected to transmitters 44, 45 for the propellers to provide a signal to switch between going-ahead and going-astern. A second control device in the form of opposed sides of frame 43, each of which is connected to the handle, provides a signal through transmitters 48, 49 to cause the ship to steer to port or to starboard. Phase discriminators 50, 51 are connected to the two controls for totalizing the ahead/astern signal and the steering signal and elements 25, 26 are respectively connected through servo-amplifiers 52, 53 to the phase discriminators to change the orientation of the propellers. Followers 54, 55 connected to the servo-amplifiers discontinue the change of orientation of the propellers when their angle of orientation reaches a desired angle. The handle can be inclined in any direction and the control rod can be arranged to issue a signal to orientate the propellers equally in opposite directions in accordance with the travel of the handle with respect to one of two cross axes through the central position of the handle, the frame 43 then issuing a signal to orientate the propellers equally in the same direction in accordance with the travel of the handle with respect to the other of the two cross axes. In the embodiment shown two independent propeller revolution speed control transmitters 62, 63 enable the respective propeller revolution speeds to be controlled.
