1471136 Brake operating; internal drum brakes CENTRAX Ltd 16 April 1974 [16 April 1973] 18893/73 Heading F2E A brake-operating mechanism (intended for internal shoe drum brakes) comprises a pair of aligned transmission elements 11, 12, mounted in guides (not shown), a wedge element 21 between the transmission elements, complementarily-inclined surfaces 15, 16, on the transmission elements and 19, 20, on the wedge element 21 respectively, and a roller 17 or 18 between each transmission element 11 or 12 and the wedge element 21, each roller carrying a pinion 30 which co-operates with a rack 33 on the wedge element or with a rack 34 on the respective transmission element; the pinion 30 may engage racks on both appropriate elements, and a further pinion 31 may be provided at the other end of each roller, all as shown; each roller may be formed as a pinion; each roller may be formed with teeth across its entire width. The transmission elements are guided by bores in a housing indirectly secured to a fixed axle of a motor vehicle and the wedge element is actuated by a fluid-pressure actuator (all not shown).
