Abstract
1469781 Scopine BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM GmbH 10 June 1974 25600/74 Heading C2C Scopine or a salt thereof is produced by reacting scopolamine (hyoscine) or a salt thereof with an alkali metal borohydride or alkali metal aluminium hydride in a solvent at for example a temperature between the freezing point of the mixture and 40‹ C. In the example, scopolamine hydrobromide in ethanol is reacted with sodium borohydride; the product is mixed with ether and hydrogen chloride gas passed to precipitate scopine hydrochloride; the precipitate in boiling methylene chloride is treated with ammonia to liberate the base.
