Abstract

1465674 Servo-systems SPERRY RAND Ltd 25 Feb 1974 [26 Feb 1973] 9282/73 Heading G3P An electrically-operated actuator comprises a piston 3 and rod 4, a passage 7 for supplying system pressure to the rod end of the piston, and a chamber 9 for supplying pressure to the other end of the piston and communicating with the system pressure through a fixed orifice, and with an exhaust outlet through a variable orifice controlled by a flapper disc 10, one face of which is adapted to close the end of a tube 11, and having a tube 12 working in a bore in the piston, the pressure in this bore being the exhaust pressure and the flapper disc being controlled by a spring- centered armature 17 of a solinoid or force motor 16. The actuator is coupled at 5 Fig. 2 to the equipment to be operated, and is also linked to an electric pick-off 23, the signal from which is determined by the position of the actuator and is summed at 26 with a demand signal 25 amplified at 24, and the resultant error signal is fed to the winding of the solinoid so as to move the flapper disc and vary the pressure acting on piston 3.
