Abstract

1463890 Xerographic printing machines INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 17 Oct 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 44974/74 Heading G2H [Also in Division B 1] A xerographic printing machine has a body of carrier particles 18 which are larger and of a different material from toner particles 22 and 23. Toner particles are entrained in an air stream on being brushed from an imaging surface 11 by brush 30 and passed through a body of the carrier particles 18 to which they adhere by a triboelectric (static) charge development between the respective particles. The charge is essentially greater than that between steel and sulphur. Pump 36 provides the air-flow, toner coated carrier particles are poured into the main reservoir of particles 20 and replaced by less heavily coated carrier particles. Fig. 3 (not shown) details a constant feed of carrier particles between two mesh screens to a main reservoir. Fig. 4 (not shown) provides a mesh screen and vacuum outlet pipe in the main reservoir of particles 20. Basic features of a xerographic printing machine are shown.
