1462301 Wrapping bottles; conveyers FEDERAL PAPER BOARD CO Inc 2 Jan 1974 [2 Jan 1973] 00057/74 Headings B8C and B8A Bottles having a generally elliptical base and a body, whose lower part has major and minor axes when seen in horizontal cross-section, are received by a wrapping machine in random arrangement, aligned with their major axis transverse to their direction of movement through the machine, and wrapped in a blank to form a tubular package. The bottles B are received by a pair of rotating augers of varying pitch and root diameter which align the bottles and a wrapper W is transferred from a magazine 14 and placed over the bottle necks. Endless conveyer chains 12, 44 positioned beneath the augers engage the bases of the bottles and a further chain conveyer (52) Figs. 1a and 6 (not shown) carry lugs 70 which arrange the bottles in groups according to the wrapper size. A motor driven plate 56 folds down one side of the wrapper blank. An upper conveyer chain 81, Fig. 7, has fingers 82 and a lower conveyer chain 84 has fingers 83, the fingers engaging apertures in the wrapper thereby enabling a plough 95 to fold the wrapper horizontally beneath the bottles. A further plate 105 folds the panels M, V, upwardly, Fig. 8, and a final conveyer chain 96 carries the bottles and wrapper past wrapper latching mechanism 20. The latching mechanism is known per se and brings tabs (Y) into engagement with corresponding apertures (I) Fig. 9 (not shown).
