Abstract

1462063 Universal milling head SOC HURE SA 9 Dec 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 57192/73 Heading B3K A universal milling head comprises a housing formed by two parts 2, 3 one part being connectibie to the milling machine and containing a shaft 5 connectible to the drive shaft (not shown) of the welding machine, the other part 3 containing spindle 6 to which a milling cutter can be secured. The two parts are connected along a joint 4 which is at 45 degrees to the axis of the shaft 5 and spindle 6 whereby rotation of the part 3 relative to the part 2 permits angular adjustment of the spindle 6. The shaft 5 and spindle 6 may be provided with bevel gears 7 and 10 respectively (see Figs. 2 and 4 in particular) which are connected within the head by gearing 16, 17 located in or formed by the inner roll 18 of a ball or roller bearing unit, the outer race(s) 20 of which may be locatably screwed in one or both housing parts 2, 3 at the region of the joint 4. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the bevel gear 7 on the shaft 5 engages in the inner race gear 16 and the other gear 17 engages in a bevel gear 10 on an intermediate shaft in the housing part 3. The bevel gear 10 is integral with a spur gear 44 which engages a spur gear 43 on the spindle 6.
