Abstract
1460448 Hand tool handles JACOBS MFG CO Ltd 20 March 1974 [21 Feb 1973] 8572/73 Heading B4K [Also in Division B3] A bladed hand tool e.g. a scraper or putty knife is made by forming a blade with an integral enlarged root end 14, providing a blind bore 16 in the enlarged root end, fitting one end of a connector 18 in the blind bore 16 and fixing a handle 12 to the connector with a ferrule 22 located on respective cylindrical portions on the enlarged root end and handle. The enlarged root end 14 of the blade may be formed in a forging operation or formed separately and welded to the blade. The connector 18 may be screwed, press fitted or secured by adhesive in the blind bore and may be attached to the handle by a wood screw portion (Fig. 2), by force fitting a serrated stem in a bore in a plastics handle (Fig. 3, not shown), or by a screwed portion engaging a nut 34 (Fig. 4) in the handle. The plastics handle, shown in Fig. 4 is hollow and provided with apertures 30 to dissipate moisture from the users hand. The ferrile 22 may be of metal or plastics material.
