Abstract

1460218 Controlling pumps POCLAIN 13 Nov 1974 [29 Nov 1973] 49129/74 Heading F1A In a pumping apparatus comprising a plurality of pumps 4a-c driven by a common motor 1, e.g. a diesel engine, clutches 8a-c on the pump driveshafts are controlled by a selector 11 responsive to the speed of the engine drive-shaft 2 measured by a tachometer 10, to prevent overloading of the engine. The pumps may have the same or different outputs, and may be of fixed or variable displacement types. Electromagnetic clutches and electric control may be used. If the pumps have the same outputs, the selector 11 acts to disconnect a different pump at each control operation by circular permutation.
