Abstract

1457308 Radio direction-finding LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS GmbH 19 April 1974 [21 April 1973] 17326/74 Heading H4D Voltage transforming means are provided for the connection of at least four individual antennae of an Adcock system to a two-channel D.F. receiver, wherein, for the distribution of the antennae voltages to two direction finding channels and the auxiliary channel of the lateral recognition, sets of power dividing equipment are provided each having two inputs and one sum output and one difference output, each pair of oppositely located Adcock antennae being connected to the inputs of a respective one of said sets of equipment, the sum outputs of all of said sets of equipment being associated with said auxiliary channel and each difference output of said sets of equipment being associated with either or both of said direction finding channels. In a first embodiment an Adcock system has six aerials 1 to 6, Fig. 1, and it is required to derive therefrom voltages U X , U Y in orthogonal relationship for application to respective channels of a two-channel D.F. receiver. As shown in Fig. 2, the pairs of oppositely disposed aerials 1, 4; 2, 5; 3, 6 are connected to the inputs of respective sum-and-difference networks 9, 10, 11. The sum outputs of the said networks are connected to the inputs of a summing element 12 to form the auxiliary sense voltage U H . The difference outputs from the networks 9, 10, 11 are connected to the inputs of respective power dividers 13, 14, 15 and one output of each of these is connected to an input of a summing element 22 and the other output of each of these is connected to an input of a summing element 23. An attenuator (16 to 21) is provided in each connection of value as shown, such that the output voltage from the element 22 is proportional to U Y , and that from the element 23 to U X . In a second embodiment an Adcock system has eight aerials (Fig. 3, not shown). Four sum-and-difference networks are provided, for the N-S, NE-SW, E-W, and SE-NW aerial pairs, respectively (Fig. 4, not shown). The difference outputs of the N-S and E-W networks are connected, respectively directly to inputs of summing elements for deriving the voltages U Y , U X . The difference outputs of the NE-SW and SE-NW networks are connected to the inputs of respective power dividers, each of which provides one output which is connected to an input of the U Y summing element, and one output which is connected to an input of the U X summing element. No attenuators are used in this embodiment.
