Abstract
1457173 Aerials PYE Ltd 30 Jan 1974 04275/74 Heading H4A An aerial comprises two opposed, spaced, electrically conductive surfaces 1, 2 between which an inductor 4 and a capacitor 5 are electrically connected in parallel to form a resonant circuit, the maximum dimension of each surface and the separation of the surfaces each being less than one quarter of the wavelength at the resonant frequency of the aerial, and the inductor being tapped at 9 for coupling R.F. energy to and from the aerial. As described, the two surfaces are flat, parallel and aligned sheets. The sheet 1 may be integral with, or extended from, the chassis 3 of a transmitter or receiver. Alternatively, it may be connected to an earth plane or conductor on a printed circuit board carrying radio components. The sheet 2 may be a metal plate or a piece of copper clad laminate as used for printed circuit boards. A capacitor 5 provides mechanical support for the sheet 2 and is variable by means of a screw 6. An inductor 4 is in the form of a hairpin-shaped length of wire, but may alternatively be provided as a conductive track on a printed circuit board. The inner conductor 7 of a coaxial cable 8 forming a feed to a radio circuit passes through an aperture in the sheet 1 and taps the inductor 4 at a point 9.
