Abstract
1,018,533. Aerials. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Dec. 18, 1962 [Dec. 29, 1961], No. 47650/62. Heading H4A. An end-fire aerial system comprises two identical semi-cylindrical non-radiating conductive segments 1 separated by narrow slots AB, CD and closely surrounded by a dielectric sleeve 2. In use the conductive segments 1 are excited in phase opposition from a bifilar line connected to the segments (Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 10, not shown), the electric fields in the slots thus being in phase (Fig. 2, not shown) causing the sleeve 2 to radiate endwise. The conductor segments 1 may comprise metal plates or metallic coatings on the inner surface of the dielectric sleeve 2, and the portions connected to the feeder line may be tapered (Figs. 4 and 10, not shown). The inside diameter of the sleeve may be #/3 and its thickness may be #/20, the slot width being #/10.
