Abstract

1455857 Alarm clocks GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 14 Nov 1973 [27 Aug 1973] 52947/73 Heading G3T In a clock having an alarm vibrator 114, Fig. 4, which is normally restrained by a lever 110 but which may be released to sound the alarm, the lever has a pair of arms 170, 172 by means of which it is pivotally mounted on the edge of a frame plate 35 and a cam groove 180 which is engaged by one end of an axially slidable rod 112 so that the lever is held in position between the plate and the rod, and the rod couples the lever to the alarm release mechanism. The latter comprises a manually set cam 108 and a cam gear 94 which is rotated twice per day by the clock train and moves axially when the cam parts become aligned, shortly before the alarm time, under the force of a spring 148 acting between the plate 35 and a collar 146 on the rod. The full movement of the rod is, however, prevented by engagement of a further collar 202 on the rod with an arm 208 of a repeat/drowse lever 200 until a lug 92 on a wheel 76 which is rotated once every ten minutes engages a further arm 210 of the lever 200 to rotate the latter against the bias of a spring (214), Fig. 3 (not shown), whereupon the arm 208 moves off the side of the collar 202 and the vibrator is freed. Depression of a drowse button (222), Fig. 1 (not shown) causes lever 136 which couples the cam gear 94 to the rod 112 to pivot about its mounting apertures 154, 156 thus moving the rod 112 to the right until the arm 208 comes back behind the collar 202. The vibrator is then held silent until the lug 92 again displaces the lever 200. The alarm can be permanently silenced by a lever 400 having a cam 402 to move the lever 136 and rod 112 to the right. An automatic shut-off lever 300, pivotally mounted in a groove'306 in a frame post 72, has one arm with a slotted end to embrace the rod 112 and engage the left side of collar 146 and a second arm 302 for engagement by a lug 304 on a gear 40. The latter is rotated once per minute by motor output pinion 42 so that the lug causes the lever 300 to pivot about the groove 306 and displace the rod to the right to silence the alarm. The rod is again held in this position by the collar 202 and lever 200 until subsequent release by the lug 92. The clock is a digital clock with three display drums 22, 26, 30, Fig. 5, the gear 40 also having a finger 38 to advance the units of minutes drum 2, and the wheel 76 driving the tens of minutes drum 26.
