Abstract

1455784 Discharge-collecting appliances HOWMEDICA INC 16 Jan 1974 [17 Jan 1973] 02020/74 Heading A5R A stoma drainage appliance 10 comprises a face plate (11) Fig. 2, (not shown), having a body portion (14) with an aperture (16) Fig. 1, (not shown), therein adapted to surround a stoma, a circumferential shoulder (17) and a projection (18) defining at least part of said aperture, and an aperture insert (12) Fig. 4, (not shown), comprising a disc 23 seatable on said shoulder with the flat upper surface of the disc aligned with that of body portion (14). an opening (24) Fig. 3, (not shown), extending through said disc and being smaller in size than said aperture, and resilient locking means (25) including an annular flange (27) depending from the disc and a projection (28) extending outwardly from said flange, which locking means releasably engages projection (8) to form a fluid-tight seal between the face plate and insert. A pouch 13, of an elastic material e.g. rubber or plastics, having a hole therein is attached to a flared skirt 19 extending from said shoulder. The face plate and disc are both preferably formed, each integrally of polyethylene. Hooks (21) are provided on the bottom surface (20) of the face plate for attaching e.g. a strap or belt thereto. A plurality of inserts having different size openings is provided.
