Abstract
1,099,455. Colostomy appliances. J. B. LEIGH. Oct. 21, 1964 [Oct. 31, 1963], No. 42992/63. Heading A5R. A device for securing a colostomy bag to the body comprises a plate 10 with an aperture surrounded by a rim 13 and a ring 15 which fits inside the rim, the rim and the ring having a complementary recess and bead, respectively, which inter-engage to secure them together, with the neck of the colostomy bag gripped between them. A plate 10 for engagement with the body has an aperture surrounded by a rim 13 with an annular recess in its inner surface. The neck of a bag B is passed through and folded over a ring 15 having a bead 16 complementary to the recess. On inserting the ring in the rim, the neck of the bag is secured between the rim and the ring. The ring has a partannular flange 17 which overlies part of the rim, and in use the bag hangs over the part of the rim not covered by the flange, so that its neck is not restricted. A domed cover having a lateral opening for the passage of the bag may fit over or be integral with ,the ring. The plate 10 has integral studs which are engaged by loops of a belt for securing the device on the body.
