1455660 Diphenyls CIBA-GEIGY AG 4 Feb 1974 [5 Feb 1973 14 Dec 1973] 04992/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises diphenyls of the formula wherein R 1 represents a C 1 to C 3 alkyl group, R 2 represents a p-(C 1 to C 3 alkoxy) phenyl, (p-(C 1 to C 3 alkylmercapto) phenyl or 3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl group, and Z represents a group of formula The diphenyls may be prepared either by reacting a compound of formula in the presence of a condensation agent with a compound of the formula R 2 H or by reacting a compound of formula in the presence of a condensation agent with a compound of the formula The diphenyls are used as herbicides.
