Abstract
1455474 Haloacetanilides and their use as herbicides CIBA-GEIGY AG 7 Feb 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 05640/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the Formula I wherein A represents an unsubstituted ethylene chain or an ethylene chain which is monosubstituted or disubstituted by methyl, R 1 represents fluorine, chlorine, methoxy, ethoxy or trifluoromethyl, R 2 represents hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or isopropyl, R 3 is in one of the two possible metapositions to the amino group and represents hydrogen, chlorine, methyl, methoxy or trifluoromethyl and R represents methyl or ethyl, with the proviso that at least one of the two substituents R 2 and R 3 has a meaning different from hydrogen if R 1 represents methoxy or ethoxy. The compounds of Formula I may be prepared by reacting a compound of formula with a chloroacetylating agent at a temperature of from 0 to 200 C. The compounds of Formula I are used as herbicides.
