Abstract

1455600 Thermal switches TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc 24 July 1974 [30 July 1973] 32685/74 Heading H1N A time delay relay comprising a thermostatic switch 9 and a heater 25 therefor both in a chamber 5 in a housing 3 with two terminals 29a, 29b for the heater and a cover 55, has a retainer 61 at the mouth of chamber 5 to hold cover 55, switch 9, heater 25 and terminals 29a, 29b in position. Retainer 61 is of spring steel and is forced or snapped into chamber mouth 53 and has tabs 63 digging into the walls of chamber mouth 53. Terminals 29a, 29b are clamped between cover 55 and stops 49 which engage shoulders (41a, 41b), Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) on the terminals. Bimetal 19 is a snapacting disc. Heater 25 is of a material with a resistivity-temperature curve having a steepsloped positive temperature coefficient such as a doped barium titanate and carbon black loaded, cross-linked polyethylene.
