Abstract

1454016 Polyurethane foams BAYER AG 15 Oct 1974 [16 Oct 1973] 44559/74 Heading C3R A polyurethane foam containing >50% by wt. of filler, based on polyurethane is made by (1) mixing together a polyether of MW 400- 10,000, a mineral filler, a chemical or physical water-binding agent, a mono- or bi-cyclic amidine and a monocarboxylic acid and/or a low-boiling organic compound of b.p. < 100‹ C. or a gas-liberating organic compound, (2) reacting with a polyisocyanate and optionally a low-M.W. polyol of M.W. <400, and (3) solidifying by briefly heating to an elevated temperature. There may be #350% wt. filler. The polyether may contain 2-8 OH groups. There may be 1-10% wt, based on polyurethane, of the water-binding agent, which may be an alkali metal aluminosilicate molecular sieve or CaO or BaO. The amidine catalyst may be where m = 2 or 3, n = 3-5, and R is organic. R may be The foam may be moulded and solidified by heating to 90‹ C. or doctored on to a conveyer belt or fabrics, e.g. carpets, and passed through a heating channel at 100-120‹ C. The foam may have a closed surface skin on both sides. Other uses are seals for air-fitters or clay pipes, sheets or bands for textile coating, sound insulation, and coating compounds for the building industry.
