Abstract

Case-shift mechanism ; shift-key actions.-In machines in which type-levers are mounted in a shift-segment which is operated by shift-key levers and is arrested by stops, the shift-key levers 33, Fig. 3, are secured to a rock-shaft 32 having a spring and lost-motion connexion with an arm 34 which engages the shift-segment 15, Fig. 2. As shown, the hub 35 of the arm is loose on the rockshaft and is formed with a slot for receiving a pin 36 on the rock-shaft. A spring 38 is secured at one end to the hub and at the other to a collar 37 on the rock-shaft. The movement of the keylevers is transmitted to the hub by the spring, and when the segment is arrested, the pin can move idly in the slot. The segment is provided with stop-screws 20, Fig. 2, for engaging stopscrews 19 on the guides 50. Specification 143,613 is referred to. Shift-key locks.-A locking-key 39 is formed with a cam face engaging a pin 40 on one of the shift-key levers 33 and is connected to a light returning-spring. The locking-key upon being depressed, operates the shift-key levers and is locked frictionally. The locking-key is released by giving a slight further depression to the shift-key levers.
