Abstract

1453625 Laminating method TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 13 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 57909/73 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] Laminates are made by pressing prepregs at 200-400‹ C. and 1-200 kg. cm.<SP>2</SP>. The prepreg is a cloth or mat, of fibres of glass, C, asbestos, or polyamide, impregnated with a solution of a prepolymer, dried, and precured. The prepolymer has formula where X comprises 1-100 units T is an aromatic or heterocyclic group, D is an aromatic, heterocyclic or cycloaliphatic group, and R is a group containing a polymerizable unsaturated double-bond. T may be a C 6-20 benzenoid radical or a heterocyclic radical, at least 2 of the -CO- groups being attached in the ortho- or peripositions. D may be a C 6-20 benzenoid radical, a heterocyclic radical, or a cycloaliphatic radical of which 2 or 3 rings are joined directly or with a divalent radical being C 1-3 alkylene, O, S, and/or SO 2 . R may be a residue of maleic, citraconic, itaconic, chloromaleic, or dichloromaleic acid, or of a Diels- Alder adduct, e.g. tetrahydrophthalic, norborn- 5 - ene - 2,3 - dicarboxylic, methyl norborn - 5- ene - 2,3 - dicarboxylic, or chlorendic acid, or Diels-Alder adducts of these adducts. Part of the T(COOH) 3 component may be replaced by an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, or part of [T(COOH) 3 +D(NH 2 ) 2 ] may be replaced by an aromatic aminocarboxylic acid.
