Abstract
1452998 Discharging hoppers K M ALLEN 10 Jan 1974 [21 May 1973] 01282/74 Heading B8S A device for controlling the discharge of granular material, e.g. salt, from a plurality of openings 24 in the bottom 22 of a hopper 10, comprises a plate 52 supported directly below the hopper bottom 22 to prevent continuous flow through the openings, and having orifices 50 therein normally staggered in relation to the openings 24, the plate 52 being reciprocable to facilitate pushing of the material into the orifices 50. The openings 24 in the hopper bottom are tapped to adjustably threadedly receive nipples 30 having orifices 26 therethrough, spreader plates 32 being mounted at the lower ends of the nipples to effectively push the material due to movement of the plate 52. A sharp threaded rod 34 is carried by leaf springs 36 secured at their upper ends to the hopper, the lower ends of the spring mount the plate 52 therebetween, and reciprocation of the plate 52 and rod 34 is effected by driven eccentric cams 64, 66 engaging one of the spring 36. The rod 34 acts as a file to break lumps of the material in the hopper.
