Abstract

1451970 Retractive switches BECTON DICKINSON ELECTRONICS CO 8 Nov 1973 [13 Noy 1972] 51895/73 Heading H1N A multiple snap-action electric switch component for affording a plurality of independently operable switches comprises a number of cantilever blades 52, one for each switch all forming part of a single sheet 50 of resilient conductive material, each blade comprising a bowed strut portion in compression and a tie portion in tension connected together at their ends and extending between a free end of the blade forming or carrying a moving contact and an anchored end connected to the remainder of the sheet, for co-operation with respective operating members for moving the associated blade, independently of other blades, to snap the moving contact to and from a fixed contact by causing the strut to snap from curvature in one direction to curvature in the opposite direction. The blades 52 are formed by punching generally U-shaped slots in the sheet 50 which is of phosphor bronze, beryllium copper or stainless steel, for example. A keyboard switch assembly is formed by mounting the resilient sheet switch plate 26, Fig. 2, to overlie a printed-circuit board 30 with a spacer plate 28 therebetween and an insulating sealer membrane 24 between plate 26 and a frame member 22 which locates operating push-buttons such as 12A, 12B, 12C and 12D. Each button projects up through an opening in the frame 22 and has a fulcrum extension at one end engaging in an undercut recess in the frame member and has an actuating under surface engaging its associated snap blade via the sealer membrane 24. The snap blade provides both an audible and a tactile signal upon depression and on release of the button.
