Abstract
1451345 Making photographic colour diffusion transfer materials POLAROID CORP 25 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49740/73 Headings G2C and G2X The sensitometry of a multi-colour photosensitive element comprising a support bearing blue-, green- and red-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers associated with yellow, magenta and cyan image dye-providing materials respectively is improved by forming a weak latent image in at least one of the emulsions by uniform exposure of the element to light of a predetermined intensity and wavelength range. Usually uniform exposure is so conducted that at least the green-and red-sensitive emulsions carry the latent image. The uniform exposure is preferably conducted by giving a uniform exposure to a first wavelength range which exposes each emulsion and to a second wavelength range which further exposes at least one of the emulsions. Best results are obtained when the intensity and wavelength range of the exposure are such that the slopes of the D log E curves of positive transfer images obtained upon subsequent imagewise exposure and development of the emulsions are in a more nearly parallel relationship with each other than in the absence of the uniform exposure. Uniform exposure may be effected after ageing the photo-sensitive element until stable sensitometric properties are achieved. The total amount of the uniform exposure may be such that it reduces the maximum reflection density upon subsequent imagewise exposure and development by not more than 0À2. The intensity of the uniform exposure may be <SP>1</SP>/ 2500 -<SP>1</SP>/ 400 of the exposure needed to give fully exposed areas. The image-dye providing material may be a dye developer. The element may be of the multi-layer type or of the screen type. The invention also comprises apparatus for assembling the above element including a rupturable container releasably holding a processing composition as described in Specification 1342572 but also comprising a pre-exposure station 84, 86.
