Abstract

1450903 Water jet propulsion PIAGGIO & C SpA 29 Nov 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 55386/73 Heading B7V A hydro-jet propulsion unit for watercraft comprises, as a single unit ready for direct fitting into a hull, an internal combustion engine 6 driving by way of a shaft 17, coupling 16 and shaft 18 a propeller 3 mounted in a duct casing 1, the exhaust pipe 9 of the engine leading to expansion chambers 7, 8 cast integrally with the casing 1 and leading to an opening 10 at the end of a chamber 11 fitted to the lower rear part of the unit. A flow straightening baffle 20 is fitted downstream of the propeller 3 and a pipe 19 supplies cooling water to the motor which exhausts via pipe 21 into the exhaust pipe 9. The motor which may be a petrol, diesel or turbine engine, is carried on two supports, as 5, a third engine mounting being provided by the coupling 16, which is resilient. A flange 13 is provided on the unit and bolts 14 are used to secure the unit in the hull.
