Abstract
1450331 Shaft seals THUNE EUREKA AS 19 Feb 1974 [27 June 1973 5 July 1973] 7381/74 Heading F2B Oil flung out into chamber 26, during pump operation, has a rotary motion imparted to it by contact with the rear wall of the pump impeller 27. The rotating ring of liquid so formed is in fluid communication, through bore 40, with relief valve 37 and, when the fluid pressure, due to angular acceleration, opens the valve 37, the chamber 26 is emptied through duct 25. In the stationary state, the chamber 26 may be emptied through ducts 9 and 25, under the pressure of a flushing gas, introduced through a duct (not shown). The bore of relief valve 41 is greater than that of valve 37, so that valve 41 lifts off its seat at a lower fluid pressure.
