1449836 Folding edges of and seaming non-metallic sheet material N LEVINE and E L LEVINSON 5 Dec 1974 [8 Dec 1973] 56996/73 Heading B5K A jig for folding the edges of a fabric sheet X, e.g. a garment pocket or collar, comprises a base plate 10 formed with a cut-out 11, a forming plate 15 corresponding in shape and size to the cut-out 11 and pivotal from a position clear of the plate 10 to a position wherein it lies substantially coplanar with the plate 10 within the cut-out 11, and a forming member or members 22, 23 displaceable on the plate 10 from a position or positions clear of the cut-out 11 to a position or positions overlapping the cut-out 11. The plate 10 is composed of a thermally insulating, heat resistant material. The metal plate 15 has a heat insulating handle 16 and is secured to one leaf of a hinge 14. The plate 15 may have a heat insulating layer 28 on its upper surface to facilitate manipulation. A stop 18 on the underside of the plate 10 limits pivotal movement of the plate 15. A flange 17 secured to the fixed leaf of the hinge 14 determines the extent to which the jig is to be inserted in a steam press. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, two forming arms 22, 23 are pivoted at 20, 21 to the plate 10 and their inner edges 24 are shaped to correspond to but, in their closed positions, extend beyond the margins of the cut-out 11. Handle portions 25, 26 are provided on the arms 22, 23. Apertures 27 are provided adjacent the edges 24 to facilitate the access of heat and/or steam to the fabric being folded. Stops 35, 36, respectively, limit outward and inward movement of the arms 22, 23. In use, with the arms 22, 23 pivoted to open position and the plate 15 raised, a sheet X to be edge-folded is positioned across the cut-out 11. The plate 15 is closed to upwardly turn the margins Y of the sheet X. The arms 22, 23 are closed to turn over the margins Y against the plate 15 and the jig is inserted is a steam press. A heat fusible lining may be secured to the sheet during the folding operation. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the forming members 22, 23 comprise slides having guide slots 32, 33 which engage pins 30, 31 on the plate 10 are movable linearly towards and away from the plate 15.
