Abstract
1449740 Utilizing wave energy; turbines I A BABINTSEV 27 March 1974 13628/74 Headings F1S and FIT Apparatus for converting sea wave energy into electrical energy comprises a buoy 1 arranged to carry out periodic forced movements along the vertical axis of the buoy, the buoy having an air chamber 5 in which air is periodically expanded and compressed by movement of the buoy with respect to the wave surface and an air duct 7 connected to the chamber 5 and communicating with a turbogenerator 2 arranged to convert into electrical energy the energy of the air flowing to and from the chamber through the duct and the turbogenerator comprising a turbine rotor, first and second stators located at opposite sides of the rotor and dispersed symmetrically with respect to the rotor and a generator drivable by the turbine. As shown the air chamber is provided in the upper portion of a tube 3 which is open at its lower end to receive a column of sea water. The construction of the turbine rotor blades and stator vanes is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown) and the arrangement of the turbogenerator is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown).
