Abstract

1448550 Treating waste gases JAPAN GASOLINE CO Ltd 27 Jan 1975 [31 Jan 1974] 3482/75 Heading C1A Nitrogen oxides present in a waste gas stream, which may optionally contain sulphur oxides, oxygen and steam, are reduced to nitrogen with gaseous ammonia in the presence of a solid iron sulphate catalyst supported on a carrier at a temperature of 250‹ to 550‹ C. and at a GHSV of 1000 to 50,000 hr.<SP>-1</SP>. Catalysts exemplified are ferrous and ferric sulphates and ferrous-ferric sulphate, on carriers which may be selected from alumina, silica, alumina-silica compounds and mixtures, diatomaceous earth, active carbon, zirconia, zeolites, silica-magnesia compounds and mixtures, cordierite and mullite; the carriers preferably have a specific surface area of not less than 50 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. and a pore volume of 0À2 to 1À5 c.c./g.
