Abstract
1446612 Oxygen lance for use in steel-making BRITISH STEEL CORP 11 March 1974 [9 March 1973] 11441/73 Heading F4B An oxygen lance with an oxygen conduit 9 has a tip including a circular baffle 2 which splits the flow of oxygen passing down the lance so that a portion passes through an annular passageway 4 and issues from the lance with a radially outward velocity component. An upper part 14 of the baffle is secured to the discharge end of the lance by three metal webs 3. A lower part 15 of the baffle is screwed to the upper part. As shown, the lance may be cooled by water flowing through a passage 12 and around a baffle 13 in an annular elongated closure 1. In an alternative tip construction, the radial width of the passageway 4, instead of being constant, increases towards the end of the baffle.
