Abstract

144,572. DaMerus, B., and Skefko Ball Bearing Co. Dec. 30, 1919. Ball bearings; dust &c., excluding.-A ball bearing for a vehicle-wheel comprises a tapered axle 2, having two cylindrical portions 3 and 4 and two shoulders 5 and 6. Inner ball races 9, 11 fit on the parts 3, 4, with outer races 19, 20 carried by a housing 18. The inner races are spaced by a sleeve 13, and a short sleeve 14 abuts against the race 11 and the shoulder 5. A lock-nut 15 screws on the tip 16 of the axle and abuts against race 19. To exclude dust &c., a disk 26, receiving the end of the housing in an annular groove fitted with a washer 28 of felt &c., abuts against the shoulder 6, and a cap 22 screws into the outer end of the housing. The housing 18 carries the wheel boss B, which fits tightly on the housing and is held by longitudinal pins 29, 30. In a modification, the boss may be bolted to flanges, one fixed to the housing, and the other adjustable, along the housing. Specification 28800/06, 14993/07, and 137,780 are referred to.
