Abstract

1445205 Cutting apparatus PRATT MFG CORP 30 May 1974 23928/74 Heading B4 A rotary cutting apparatus, e.g. in a packaging machine comprises a pair of rotatable cutting elements 26 and 28, the cutting edge of the element 26 being rotatable about a larger cutting radius than that of the element 28 whereby the cutting edges travel at different lineal speeds, the cutting edge of the element 26 being angled in relation to the axis of rotation of the latter element in two planes at substantially right angles to each other such that a shearing cut is effected during each rotation of the elements. The cutting elements 26, 28 are secured by screws 52, 40 to arms 22 and 24 respectively and adjustable by screws 54, 44. The cutting element 26 is mounted on the surface 48 of the arm 22, the surface being inclined to the axis of a shaft 18 on which the arm is mounted. The cutting elements are geared together such that the cutting edges engage while they are within a gap 16 formed in a conveyer 10 on which a sheet of, e.g. paper, is travelling.
