Abstract

1445029 Valves for pressurized dispensing containers PRECISION VALVE CORP 19 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 40922/74 Heading F1R A valve assembly for an aerosol dispenser includes a body member 10 with a stem 11 having a coaxial passage (13) Fig. 1 (not shown) and an orifice 14 communicating therewith; a valve actuator 20 with a socket 21, removably and rotatably receiving the stem and having a discharge orifice 25 and a central plug 22, there being a plurality of slots 15, 15a, 15b &c. of different sizes extending axially from the upper end of the valve stem and through the wall of the stem to communicate selectably with the discharge orifice by rotation of the actuator on the stem. A detent 23 may extend inwardly from the socket wall to engage a selected one of slots 15, 15a &c. Grooves 17, 17a &c. are formed symmetrically about the slots leaving sealing ribs 18, 18a &c. between them. As shown the product passes from a valve orifice 14 into the passage (13) and is discharged via the selected slot and the orifice 25. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown), with slots of lesser axial length, a groove (24) in the plug provides for flow from the coaxial passage to the selected slot. The discharge orifice 25 may be one of a variety of shapes. The assembly is said to provide for easy cleaning of flow passages.
