1280229 Delivering measured quantities of liquid E H GREEN 10 July 1969 [15 July 1968] 34922/69 Heading B8N [Also in Division F1] A valve assembly for an aerosol container comprises a cover member 30 preferably of metal which is to be secured to the dome 24 of a container 22, a hollow housing 32 and a gasket 46 secured to the housing by the cover member, an insert 60 defining a metering chamber disposed between the gasket 46 and a further gasket 58, a spring urged valve plunger 76 normally engaging the gasket 58, and a removable spray head 36 including a depending hollow stem 98. The stem passes through apertures in the gaskets, engages a socket in the valve plunger, and includes an external axial groove 110, an aperture 108 and an outlet 104. In use, depression of the head will permit material to initially pass via groove 110 into the metering chamber 68. Upon continued depression the chamber will first be isolated and will then communicate with the atmosphere via aperture 108, passage 100 and outlet 106, to permit discharge of material. The head may be removed when desired for cleaning. Upon return of the head from a completely depressed condition, material will pass into the chamber to at least partially fill the same via the groove 110 prior to the plunger 76 sealingly engaging the gasket 58. In order to vary the quantity dispensed the insert 60 may be changed. For continuous dispensing a spray head having a slot through the wall of the stem instead of the groove 110 replaces the illustrated spray head which is removed.
