Abstract

1444713 Packaging liquids; liquid container; pouches for liquids IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 July 1973 [24 Aug 1972] 39412/72 Heading B8C A method of filling a container which is formed from a length of flexible tubular plastics film 1 sealed at one end, comprises clamping the open end of the container in gastight relation with a filling nozzle 8, introducing a gas under superatmospheric pressure and a predetermined quantity of a liquid into the container through the nozzle 8, and transversely clamping the plastics film above the level of the liquid and below the nozzle to produce a temporary gas-tight seal before the nozzle is withdrawn and while the open end of the container is sealed. When the liquid is a carbonated beverage, such as beer, supplied from a reservoir, the container is pressurized with carbon dioxide to a pressure substantially the same as the pressure upon the beverage in the reservoir before the beverage is introduced. The beverage is chilled to 5‹C before being packed. The container may be sealed at one or both ends by flattening the or each end of the tubular film and transversely folding the flattened end through 180 degrees around a rod (3) Fig. 2 (not shown), and then crimping a strip (4) Fig. 2 (not shown), of malleable material onto the folded film and the rod (3); U.K. Specification 1,444,714 referred to. The ends may also be sealed as described in Specifications 1,251,672 and 1,302,450. After the container has been filled and sealed, the cylindrical body portion thereof is wrapped with paper to form a support sleeve (6) Fig. 1 (not shown), which provides a medium for labelling; Specification 1,386,412 referred to. The ends of the container not protected by the sleeve (6) are reinforced by strips (2) Fig. 1 (not shown) adhered externally to the surface of the tubular film 1. The container may include an opening port in at least one of the two faces at one end of the container, the or each port being sealed by a removably adhered gas-tight patch; U.K. Specification 1,370,803 referred to.
