Abstract

1443760 Walking sticks TAL APPERLY 15 Nov 1974 [22 Nov 1973] 54163/73 Heading A4P [Also in Divisions A5-A6] A walking aid, e.g. a walking stick or crutch, has a foldable step 11 pivotally mounted on the lower end portion thereof. A foldable support member 13 may be provided to support the step in its unfolded position. A resiliently extendable member 15 acts in the manner of a toggle mechanism and biases the step in the folded position. A rubber stop 19 bears against the stick 10 in the folded position and acts to prevent the user's foot from slipping off the step. In a modification Figs. 5-7 (not shown) a lever having an angled slot engageable by a pin on the step additionally holds the step in its unfolded position. The stick may be provided with a plurality of holes whereby the step may be adjustably mounted in which case member 13 is also adjustable. The stick may comprise two telescopic members secured by ballcatches.
